When We Tripped on the Sky

When we tripped on the sky and fell to earth
We lost our innocence and gained mistrust
Yet it was in this world we found great mirth
And God’s life dwells in these bodies of dust

In this valley of tears we wage a war
Against Satan and all the pow’rs of hell
With our souls as the prize, our beings’ core
While our guardian angels shield us well

Though the battle rage and death is always
We find rejoicing in the day to day
The things that remind us in little ways
That our God is listening when we pray

And sometimes we stumble, concupiscent
And sometimes we struggle to rise again
But our brothers in battle are heaven sent
True friends who help us to truly be men

Although each new day is fraught with trial
And filled with many novel temptations
Yet I will gladly walk this earth a while
With joy and love despite its lamentations

When we tripped on the sky and fell to earth
We lost our innocence and gained mistrust
Yet it was in this world we found great mirth
And God’s life dwells in these bodies of dust
