As the Days Grow Shorter

The nights come early and the sun comes late
Our days grow shorter still
And in this cold I ponder my fate
While inward creeps the chill

For now I fear I am all alone
And she so far away
As the wind through dying branches moans
And I wait for the day

Soon the days will be lengthened
Anon I will see my love
My heart will then be strengthened
By the one I'm dreaming of

Together we shall celebrate
Our Lord and Savior's birth
When He took form in time and space
To teach us of our worth

A time to spend with family
To remember we are not alone
That He who made the world to be
Took on our flesh and bone

And together with my girl
We will travel then away
Into what may seem another world
As the year reaches its last day

A break from all the trials
All the stresses in our lives today
To remember for awhile
That we were made for both work and play

Worry About the Future

Sometimes I worry about the future
Caught up in my anxiety
I wonder what my life will bring
And where we both will be

Sometimes it's hard for me to wait
To step back from it all and say
That whether or not I know the future
I will be happy with my today

For I am truly very blessed
In my life, my friends, my family
In the girl whom I dearly love
There's so much He's given me

I know I need not worry myself
If I work and love with all my heart
There is nothing that cannot be done
If I choose the better part

So I focus on the girl I love
On the friends that all surround
Anchored in all to Him above
That His every grace may abound

My Bright Sun

Treading upon the moonlight
I walk out beyond the dawn
Cross the path of meteorites
As I traverse the world anon

The astral world arcane and cold
Scintillating beyond our sight
Daring us to be so very bold
To live and love with all our might

Though we are miniscule in scale
Insignificant in our size
You are my all in this worldly vale
You're my bright sun and clearest skies

A Wonderful Girl

A wonderful girl I know
Lovely as the sun is bright
Lithe and beautiful to behold
Intoxicating to my sight
Eager to do good things
Heart full of care for me
A wonderful light she brings
Now to all we do and see
Never ending adventure and
Excitement may await us two
Now as we walk, holding hands
Into a brilliant sky so blue
Little by little time shall pass us by
One day at a time we'll grow
Venturing together in all we try
Each other to better know
Yes life may be a challenge
Obstacles will try our care
Ultimately I believe, in the love we share

Holidays Apart

In this season of holidays
Whilst my love's so far away
I wait for her, I wait for when
We will be together once again

Fortunate and blessed am I
With friends and family so close by
But I wish to share this time with her
And all the merriment that shall occur

And she with her own friends and family
Who are looking forward, her to see
To celebrate life's many blessings
With turkey, pies, and different dressings

I'm thankful for what we both are given
Our friends and families are gifts from heaven
Yet still I will wish most eagerly
For when my love I again will get to see

My Wild Prairie Rose

My wild prairie rose
A girl fair and sweet
From the tip of her nose
All the way down to her feet

She who walks beside me
Though we know not where we head
But hand in hand, we two
Will ever onward tread

And as long as she's beside me
I feel the world's aright
But when I lose sight of her
It seems as dark as night

I hope to never lose her
My prairie rose so fair
Who makes my world beautiful
With her smile and her care

My Favorite Distraction

You are my favorite distraction
You are my favorite excuse
To turn away
From the toil of my day
To relax a bit and cut loose

You lead me away from my troubles
You guide me away from my stress
And help me see
That there's more to be
Than caught up in my own little mess

I'm too easily sunk in my struggles
Too easily weighed down by my strife
But with you I recall
Even if I should fall
There is far more than just work in my life

So know when I tell you I'm busy
Or that I really should get back to work
I'm glad to have paused
No trouble's been caused
You've reminded me what life is worth

Perception in Relation

The world of our own perception
The life we see all around
Our own sense of conception
Of seeing and of sound
Of feeling, smelling, tasting,
Of being present now
And then fully embracing
Whither the 'why's and 'how's
To dream of the one you wish to see
But not forget in the moment still to be
To plan the future you'll walk together
Come fire or famine or stormy weather
And still rejoice in the day to day
The seconds that you can both steal away
To share the now, the present-tide
As you learn to walk side by side
For we see the world in relation
Through connections and communication
To find the one who makes our world anew
And brings everything to a brighter view
Whilst you for them do the same in turn
A blessing given that we could never earn

I Miss You

There's an aching in my heart
A longing in my soul
A space that is now vacant
A lovely you-shaped hole
I count the days till you return
Ticking slowly past
Until I am again with you
And hold you close at last
Until then know that I miss you
With every fibre of my heart
Waiting for the termination
Of this time when we're apart

An Ocean of Insanity

I'm desperately treading water in an ocean of insanity
Trying to keep my head above the level of the sea
But a storm is coming and the waves are getting higher
And every moment longer my situation is more dire
I fear that I will sink, that I will be sucked down below
Into a madness that will drag me deep, like an undertow
Two more weeks I need to last, then another and then three
And afterward I'll have sunk or swum in my own insanity

Where Have You Gone?

Where have you gone, my darling girl?
So far away from me
Over mountains, across the world
Far beyond the sea

To spend your days with other men
To see the sights alone
While here I wait and think of you
Wishing you safely home

Where have you gone, my darling maid?
To a land of tapas and wine
In a city, many countries away
In another time

To travel museums, churches, and squares
To learn a foreign land
Navigating your way through the alien
Whether small or grand

Where have you gone, my darling lass?
As they say, 'across the pond'
Next to an isle, and capitol city
As you journey on

To learn your trade amongst foreigners
To see from another view
While here I wait, and most wistfully
I shall wait for you

A Girl Most Fair

Once upon a time
I met a girl most fair
With the most gorgeous eyes
And radiant brown hair

We went to the movies
We shared a smallish treat
And I talked a while
With this girl of whom I speak

But then I did not know her
And I was most hesitant
So after that brief time
Our separate ways we went

But upon my own reflection
I was not totally content
I'd enjoyed our time together
And thought of what it meant

And so the very next day
I tried to see her once again
By going to the Mass
Which I suspected she'd attend

Oh fortunate was I
Blessed and fortunate
For all that Mass beside me
She did choose to sit

And afterwards I asked
Heart in throat and on my sleeve
If perhaps she was still single
And interested in me

Oh blessed day, oh great joy
That I was not in the wrong
For she too had enjoyed our time
And hoped it could continue on

And so that week, and on from there
We shared our time together
And I pray that we persist
From now until forever

Across an Ocean

Across an ocean, through a door
My heart has left with a lass
And I remain here once more
Staring through a pane of glass

The world outside looks as before
But for me there's something absent
Until she returns to me once more
Then my heart will be content

For now, though, I remain here
And waiting patiently
I hope for her safe return, my dear
From far across the sea

I miss her much already
And my heart will further ache
As the time, it passes slowly
As though my will to break

But for her I will gladly wait
And though it seems quite distant
In the scheme and time of fate
It shall pass us in an instant

Across an ocean, through a door
My heart has left with a lass
And I remain here once more
Staring through a pane of glass

Walk into the Night

A fall walk in the park
We stop and watch a squirrel
Wander till it's dark
In the wind the leaves all twirl
Rise and then they fall
As we breath in time
While feeling our hearts' call
To follow the sublime
The wind will howl and moan
As the night meanders on
We'll walk in the unknown
Until the dark is gone
And remain there hand in hand
Standing in the rays
Like castles in the sand
Waiting to be washed away
By emotion pure and sweet
By hope that is unchained
To where e'er our feet
Will carry us again

The Heart Grows Fonder

There's a beautiful girl I'm missing
Who's traveling across the sea
Every time I wish she was closer
She seems to travel farther from me

But soon she will come back again
And I'll see her face to face
And know the warmth of holding her close
Enjoy again her tender embrace

The days in between seem long
As they stretch from week to week
The distance between us ever a barrier
Even though we still may speak

But though the time apart
May make my poor spirit wonder
The distance certainly doesn't prevent
My weary heart from growing fonder
