If the heavens opened up, and the cosmos shone upon us
Would we, could we, comprehend the brilliant light?
If death’s doors open wide, sought to engulf Christ’s eternal bride
Could we but by the grace of God continue this earthly fight?
This is the world we live in, the bellicose maelstrom which surrounds us
We are the Church, most Militant, and the devil seeks to hound us
Death could come today or never, as the devil plays his hand
But in the end his victories are fleeting, as footsteps in the sand
Though to us the angels seem like titans, burning strong with purity
It is in the hearts of men this war is waged, for who we are and who we’ll be
But we are not without aid or succor in this vale, full of tears
His bride is with us, whole and pure, to help us through our years
