Summertime Turtle

An empty courtyard on a sunny day
The red brick bakes in the sun’s piercing rays
The fountain bubbles, a wat’ry burble
As into its depths slips a small turtle
Alone in the fountain, he swims about
Whilst happily submerged, all but his snout
Not a care in the world, the courtyard is his
Whether sunning or swimming or resting his lids
A joyful turtle on a summer’s day
Surrounded by a world of water and clay
