For Word and Question 9
“It’s over” she whispered
Two words, one voice, and the infinite shattered
Deaf, dumb, and blind
Broken
“It’s better this way”
You see a woman is worst when she ‘knows’ what is best
She’ll drag you to hell and back and never give you a rest
And you’ll follow her always for some fool idea of love
Till she cuts out your heart and gives you a shove
You may think you’re now in the ‘valley of tears’
But she’ll show you worse by miles and years
She won’t mean to hurt you
When she stabs you she’ll cry
She’s already convinced
Though you know it’s a lie
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned
But if she ‘knows better’ be most forewarned

Word: valley

I like the poem -- or is it intended to be sung? I especially like that says a woman is worst when she "knows" what is best. It's universal: I think we're all at our worst when we pretend to know what's best!
ReplyDeleteNice job!

ReplyDeleteI'm with Dylan on the favorite line part, but is that me being cynical? If so, I blame your poem, which is really very good. I especially like the varying rhythms and patterns. It speaks to my whimsy, even though whimsy is not a word I'd use to describe this one. Too much black.

ReplyDeleteLast month, you had my word; this month, you got my question! =)
Your poem reminds me a little of Always a Woman to Me, or whatever the title of that Billy Joel song is--except that it's less sweetly sentimental.
