Walking Again

Long ago I walked alone
Step by thorny step upon the cold bare stone
‘Til, for a while, I walked with you
And it seemed like, come hell or high water we’d make it through

But now I find myself alone again
I don’t know where I’m going, or even when
I look to the horizon, but don’t see you there
The nights coming on and there’s a haze in the air

I miss you, but I will walk along alone for stride
Hoping to find someone else to walk beside
Maybe for the rest of this gambol
If they’ll permit my contrarian amble
