The fire is hot and crackling
Popping in the cold night air
The circle of heat unshackling
Our bodies from a day of wear
We relax beside the burning logs
Feel the heat soak in our bones
Water drying in little wisps of fog
As we speak in gladsome tones
A peaceful night for firelight
After a day in the wild on retreat
A pleasant end to a day with friends
Whose company just can’t be beat
Our limbs are tired, our consciousness lags
So now we prepare to rest our eyes
As we tuck into our warm sleeping bags
Ready for whatever comes with sunrise
