Desolation

The dawning of the day
Upon a blood red sea
Sun scorches barren clay
As far as eye can see
Desolate the coast line
Devoid of any life
Survival of the barest kind
Balanced upon a knife
The heat burns all things at day
The frost kills what’s left at night
Until naught is left to scrape away
A life in this hopeless blight
