Running

Thump thump thump
Goes the pavement 'neath my feet
Thump Thump Thump
Goes my heart's strenuous beat
As I'm sucking down air and strain my core
Hoping to run faster, a little more
My body aches and my head is pounding
But feeling wind past my face is astounding
The stars slowly fade into morning sky
And I return home, a little less spry
But while exhausted, also refreshed
And ready for the day with my very best
To work and thrive and surpass my goals
A morning run to awaken the soul
