Young Again

The sky slowly brightens as a new morning’s begun
Another day, another chance, under the shining sun
To play and to run and to sing at the top of our lungs
To make weird faces at each other and stick out our tongues

When we were children, when we were young
Did we know, did we see, did we care
About difference of skin tone, or financial net worth
Or the brand of the gel in our hair

The ball pit is calling, the slide long, way down to below
You cheer and I’m off, out of control, yelling as I go
We climb, we slide, we swing on swings, all those things from before
We play in the brook, building dams, wading in from the shore

When we were children, when we were young
Did we know, did we see, did we care
About difference of skin tone, or financial net worth
Or the brand of the gel in our hair

Night comes too soon, though I’m quite tired, watching a lunar eclipse
You’re fast asleep, head in my lap, a smile plays at your lips
You must be dreaming of something most great and magical
As the moon shines again making you glow, so beautiful

When we were children, when we were young
Did we know, did we see, did we care
About difference of skin tone, or financial net worth
Or the brand of the gel in our hair

Tomorrow we’ll go back to the world of planes, cars, and men
We’ll put on suits and act mature, maybe wear a vest
But for today we were once again like little children
Happy, carefree, as we should be, living life at its best

So apparently this is as whimsical as I get.
