Dedication Poems

Why I do so poorly at dedication poems (at least, dedication prior to writing):

I try to dedicate
The poems I create
Yet each time they deflate
Upon the tie in

So maybe I’d be better
Not writing to the letter
But just leaving off the tether
Of the buy in

For each time that I try
Each theme I underlie
They all seem to die
As they close out

And then the very ending
Ruins the poem’s sending
As the message I’d been mending
The link throws out
