Innocence Lost

Born from innocence we were
Condemned to walk this barren earth
Through all the struggles that occur
From cradle to grave, death from birth

As we age our innocence is tainted
The world’s vision blinds our eyes
O’erlaid, the mural of our life is painted
As we’re bound with concupiscent ties

Through this fallen state we travel
Seeking to find our way back home
O’er roads well paved and paths of gravel
As we venture through the unknown

We sing a quiet requiem
For innocence lost as in this fane
We pray with hope to the Son of Man
That at death, our innocence we will regain

  1. Solid throughout. One of my favorites that you've written. This is a topic that always teases me. The blackness through which we, each of us, have come to where we are now. The knowledge of good and evil that we have gained. These are painful to think on, sometimes, though beautiful, too, because we can hope.

    Couldn't help thinking of this:

"Ralph mourned for the end of innocence, and for the fall through the air of that good, true friend called Piggy."
