To teach a child the truth
For we should never teach them lies
Is surely a difficult task
To no one’s real surprise
Truth contains such depth
That we fear its over-simplification
While we simultaneously lament
A lack of well developed foundation
Yet I suspect we underestimate
The tenacity of a child’s mind
To learn the truths we have to teach
And understand them all in kind
We expect them to be simple
Yet we should know they are not ever
We expect their logic to be basic
When instead they are quite clever
Children seem to grasp more readily
The truths adults find most wild
No wonder Christ insisted that we
Approach with the faith of a little child
