Snow Fun

Snow falls softly, drifting slowly downward
Laying gently o’er the quiet vale
Grey clouds blanket, the last leaves gently stirred
From off the trees, upon the breeze to sail
The flakes land on my tongue and melt away
Flat light melds my horizons into one
I grab a sled, run up the hill to play
In this wint’ry whiteness, this frozen fun
We make our snow angels upon the lawn
We build our snowmen to stand straight and tall
We play til dusk, we’ve been out since the dawn
We built mighty fortresses, played snow ball
Then into the warm house, our glasses fog
As we take off our coats, mittens, and hats
The fireplace crackling with another log
We curl up just like so many warm cats
Sipping our cups of cider as we thaw
As the sun’s last light will gradually leave
A happier bunch than you ever saw
As we played in the snow on Christmas Eve.
