Cool gentle night as the snow falls outside
I sit here wondering about the world
So many things we try so hard to hide
Metaphors in enigmas tightly twirled
Why do we play these silly little games?
Why must we make everything so hard?
Why do we hide our actions behind names
That obscure our purpose, leave concepts marred?
Do we fear the silence? Being alone?
Is that why we dress up and wear our masks?
Are we afraid of being truly known?
Or of being truthful when someone asks?
The snow outside falls to cover the ground
And make everything look clean and white
But underneath those tall crystalline mounds
Lies the same dirt, the same cold, barren sight
But in that truth we hide,
What great beauty belied,
By our little tricks and ploys
Underneath that cover
What we may discover:
Plain truth and simple joys.
Please see, please be
That which others are blind to
Please try, may you fly
Above, and in all you do.
